New Mechanics Roughing the passer is now a 2 part signal, combining signals 38 (PF) and signal 34 (RTP). Upon the conclusion of a down, the crew is to raise their hand to signal to the PCO that the down is over and the play clock is to reset. In cases where an alternate signal is given by the covering official(s), such as incomplete pass or TO, that official is not to raise their hand since the signal given signifies the end of the down. The non-covering officials still raise their hands. With the new 40/25 second play clock, the R will not have a chop when the 40 second PC is utilized. When the 25 second clock is in play, the whistle/chop will be used. When the LTG is achieved and the GC is stopped for a first down but the PC is set at 40 and running, the R will wait for the U to spot the ball, then he will give a silent wind to the GC operator. NOTE: We are not to wait for the box to set. As soon as the ball is spotted, wind the clock.

New Mechanics Upon the conclusion of a down, the U shall spot the ball for the succeeding snap ASAP, then IMMEDIATELY move into position for the next snap. Don’t stand over the ball! NOTE: Exception for protecting the ball in the rain. Inevitably, offenses will try to utilize the above mechanic to their advantage by hurrying substitutes into formation, thereby catching B with a substitution infraction. Unlike in college, allowing B to react to A substitutions is NOT a requirement. Mechanics to reset the PC: If resetting to a 40 second clock, push up with 2 hands. If resetting to a 25 second clock, push up with 1 hand. R: If we are in a 40 second situation and the ball has not been spotted by the U by the time the PC reads 25, reset the PC to 25, then whistle/chop. It is imperative that we have conversations with the 2 clock operators prior to each game. There will be a learning curve!

New Mechanics The PC shall be set at 40 seconds after: A running play inbounds (includes a pass/catch and subsequent run). A running play OOB (includes a pass/catch and subsequent run). An incomplete pass. A play after a double change of possession where A will snap the ball. The PC shall be set to 25 seconds after all administrative TO’s. NOTE: stopping the clock for a first down IS NOT an administrative TO. The 40 second PC shall start approximately 1 second after the conclusion of the succeeding down. BJ: Shall give a visual and verbal countdown in both the 40 and 25 second situations.

New Mechanics The goal is for the U to spot with ball within 15 seconds of the conclusion of the previous down. If the box has not yet been set after a first down and the succeeding snap is imminent, HL shall drop a BB at the LOS. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE BOX! FG Mechanics: HL and LJ shall stand 15 yards wider than all KT players. Crew: BB mechanics dictate that, when required, the bag shall be thrown HEAD HIGH. The logic for this mechanics is to make the bag more visible for the remaining crew to see the bag and to reduce the possibility of an inadvertent whistle. Please make note of the new lightning/thunder policy. The OHSAA has adopted the policy as written in the NFHS rules book. See page 102 for details. Eye shields: If the HC/AD presents a letter signed by Beau Rugg giving permission for a player to wear a tinted eye shield, grant this exception. If you have questions, contact Beau Rugg during the next business day.
