Welcome to 6th grade Science! Let me first say thank you to each of you for being here tonight. It is such a blessing to be a part of a community that has such wonderful parent support! I am so excited to be able to teach your kiddos this year. We are going to have a fabulous year!

Class Rules Respect yourself, your peers, and all school faculty Keep a positive attitude the entire day. Encourage others to do their best work. You don’t have to be perfect, but be excellent.

General Procedures As soon as the students enter the room, they check the board for any materials they may need, bell ringers, and news updates. We have bell work questions almost daily. These may be just a quick question to check their knowledge or understanding of a topic, or they may be more detailed and taken for a grade.

Textbooks and Notebooks I keep a class set of textbooks, therefore your child will not have one issued to them this year. If we ever have homework, I will copy the pages needed from the text. Their notebooks are kept in the class at all times. There may be a few times where I give them permission to take them home. These will be graded every Friday.

How does your child earn their grade? GOLD GRADES- This will be 55 percent of their over all grade. Examples of gold grades are major end of a unit tests, benchmarks, and major projects. SILVER GRADES-These will be 30 percent of their overall grade. Examples of silver grades are labs, quizzes, small projects, and some homework/classwork. BRONZE GRADES-These will be 15 percent of their overall grade. Examples of bronze grades are most classwork/homework assignments, notebook grades, vocabulary activities, and bell ringers.

Make Up Work I have a section on my board were the students can find what work they are missing. If they are absent, when they return they will find their name written on the board, with the activity written next to it. If they need handouts, I will have those for them with their name on them. I would like all make up work to be turned in within 3 days of the absence.

Oops Notes and Homework Excuses Oops Notes- This is a letter to inform you of any issues your child may be having in class. If they have to take this letter home, it is a result of one or more of the following: 1. Excessive talking 2. Not prepared for class 3. Being rude or disrespectful etc…. Homework Excuse- These are filled out by the student when homework is not turned in. It is not sent home and kept in my homework excuse file. If they have two or more homework excuse notes, I will call or arrange a time to talk with you about the missing work.

My Blog Please have your student check my blog EVERYDAY! They can get to my blog by going to the HMS website, clicking on the Faculty and Staff tab, then clicking the link next to my name.

Strike Policy The “strike week” runs from Thursday-Wednesday. All Teachers enter the strikes they’ve given on Wednesdays. If you receive detention, you will be given the notice on Friday. If you receive a strike from me, you will be asked to initial on my strike log. So you can NEVER say that you didn’t know you got a strike!! Reasons for Strikes: Disruption of Class Disobeying Teacher Gum, food, drinks in class Tardy Unprepared for Class Cell phone, or other technology disruption

What I need from YOU Encourage your child to write in their agenda daily. Encourage them to stay on top of assignments and make up work. Encourage them to put their name on everything! 4. Encourage them to check my blog daily.
