Family Tree Witnesses of Wonder

In the days of Jesus, your family was your resume’. Family Tree In the days of Jesus, your family was your resume’.

What did Jesus’s resume’ look like? Family Tree What did Jesus’s resume’ look like?

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1

Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Matthew 1:2

and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, Matthew 1:3

and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, Matthew 1:4

and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king. Matthew 1:5,6

And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, Matthew 1:6,7

and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Matthew 1:8,9

and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. Matthew 1:10,11

And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor,  Matthew 1:12,13

and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob,  Matthew 1:14,15

and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. Matthew 1:16

So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. Matthew 1:17

What can we learn from Jesus’s family tree?

Family Tree Jesus’s family contained liars, adulterers, prostitutes and even a murderer.

God used the family of Jesus to do great things. Family Tree God used the family of Jesus to do great things.

What does your family tree look like?

God is not done with your family. Family Tree God is not done with your family.

God is not done with your family. God is always working, always seeking, always looking to redeem people and families.

God is not done with your family. If you repent, believe in Christ, and submit to Him in baptism, His grace will cover your sins.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet,     they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson,     they shall become like wool. Isaiah 1:18

If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; Isaiah 1:19

but if you refuse and rebel,     you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Isaiah 1:20

God’s Family Is for Everyone In Jesus Christ, prostitute and King, male and female, Jew and Gentile, all races, moral and immoral, sit down as equals.

God’s Family Is for Everyone Equally sinful and lost, equally redeemed and loved.

God’s timing is perfect. Family Tree God’s timing is perfect.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  Romans 5:6

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:7,8

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.  Romans 5:9

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.  Romans 5:10

More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:11

God’s Timing Is Perfect God may appear to be slow, but He never forgets His promises.
