Welcome to the Title I Parent Meeting The ESSA = Every Student Succeeds Act of 2005 requires that each school hold an annual Title I Parent Meeting: Inform you of your school’s participation in the Title I Program Explain the requirements of Title I Explain your rights as parents to be involved.

TITLE I Purpose: To ensure that all children have a fair, equal, significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and to reach proficiency in challenging State assessments.

How are Funds Distributed? “Targeted” Title I – Funds are used with only the disadvantaged students in the school. “Schoolwide” Title I - Whenever over 40% student population is educationally disadvantaged, funds may be used to serve all students on the identified campus.

Use of Title I Funds As a schoolwide campus, the funds we receive are used for: Purchase of supplemental materials, equipment, and programs

Title I Use of Funds Timely assistance and intervention for students who are struggling. Instructional Aides Tutoring RtI Interventionists

Parent Involvement Activities One percent of funding is reserved for grants of $500,000 or more.

Staff Recruiting and hiring highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals.

Parents Have a right to help decide how the money is spent and to help with the Title I Plan: Academic assessments Assistance to struggling students Coordination with other programs like migrant, preschool, school choice Coordination & integration of other federal funds Parent Involvement activities

What is a CIP? The CIP is the Campus Improvement Plan that outlines a school’s plan for continuous improvement: Needs assessment for student achievement Goals & Strategies to address campus needs Professional Development activities Coordination of resources & budgets School’s Parental Involvement Plan

Participation in Title I Programming Includes A description of the school’s curriculum Information on academic assessments used to measure student progress Information on proficiency levels students are expected to meet: STAR Renaissance Reading; Think Through Math; Achieve 3000

Components of Parental Involvement Plan How parents will be involved in decision-making. How Parent Involvement funds will be used How information and training for parent will be provided How the school will build capacity in parents and staff for strong parent involvement

Parent –School Compact Parents, School & Students have a shared responsibility to improve student achievement

Parent Notification Parents have the right to know the qualifications of their child’s teacher.

Evaluation of Parent Involvement Plan Conducted annually Analyze content and effectiveness Identify barriers to Parent Involvement Use data and parent input: -parent surveys - focus groups - Parent Advisory Committees (PAC) Processes & Timeline How will evaluation affect next year’s plan

Ways to Become Involved Serve on a school committee Volunteer in the classroom, cafeteria, office, field trip Join and be active in PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) Attend school activities- Parent Nights, Parent Conferences, Open House, Report Card Night, Learning Nights, Library Night, Breakfast Clubs Help your child at home with his studies

More Ways to Partner Email, text, call and visit with your child’s teacher often Participate in parent trainings Stay current and informed about school activities and issues through newsletters, newspaper, and the website. Stress the importance of attendance and being on time to your child Make schoolwork a priority at home Be a school advocate in your neighborhood.
