How are plants classified? There are two types of plants: Vascular - Have a system of tubes for transporting water and other nutrients. Nonvascular - Do not have a vascular system.

How are plants classified? Vascular plants are able to grow much larger than nonvascular due to their support system.

How are plants classified? Vascular plants can be divided into seed plants or seedless plants. A seed contains an undeveloped plant, stored food and a protective covering.

How are plants classified? There are two main types of seed plants: Gymnosperm - A seed plant that does not produce a flower. An angiosperm - A seed plant that does produce flowers.

How are plants classified? All seeds of an angiosperm plant are covered by a type of fruit. The fruit is there to protect the seed inside.

Roots A root is the part of the plant that absorbs water and minerals, stores food, and anchors the plant. Different plants have different kinds of roots. Some plants have specialized roots for their environment.

Roots There are four types of roots, aerial, fibrous, taproot and prop roots. You can tell a lot about a type of environment based on the type roots the plants in that environment have.

Stems Stems have two functions. Stems are the plant’s support system. A tree’s stem needs to be able to support all the weight of the tree, for example. Stems also serve as the transport system for a plant.

Leaves The leaves are where the plant carries out photosynthesis. Different types of leaves have different types of uses. Broad, or wide, leaves are able to collect more sunlight.
