Objective: to discuss DNA structure, chromosome structure and replication 12.2

DNA length is very long Imagine packing 300 meters of rope into your bookbag This is similar to how much DNA is in a bacterium

Chromosome structure: pg 297 in your book! DNA and protein together= chromatin Chromatin is when DNA wraps around histones Histones: protein (looks like little pebbles)

Double helix wraps around histones which is coiled and then super coiled and packed to make the chromosome Page 297!!!

Replication: DNA copying itself Structure of DNA explains how it can be copied easily An enzyme (DNA polymerase) cuts and “unzips” DNA Because of base pairing one side of the ladder can easily make the other side
