Factors impacting on Performance Unit 3.4 “Identify and explain at least 2 future development needs.”

Future Development Needs Choose 2 other areas of your performance which you could develop in the future. Choose from: Other development needs from your initial testing The second of your two original development needs (if you only worked on 1 in your training programme) Development needs that you identified as a result of training Development needs you identified as a result of retesting Development needs you identified as a result of performing

Your answer must... DESCRIBE both development needs AND IDENTIFY 2 Development needs DESCRIBE both development needs AND EXPLAIN how each development need negatively impacts performance THEN EXPLAIN how working to improve these development needs will positively impact your performance

For example… I am going to look again at physical factors and try to improve my reaction time in responding to the gun at the start of the race. I have noticed through analysing video footage of training sessions that my reaction time to the starting pistol is slower that some of my peers. This immediately puts me at a disadvantage in the race. Improving this should allow me to get a stronger start and quicker drive off the starting blocks, reducing my time by valuable seconds.

For example… I am now going to focus on a mental factor, in particular my high levels of anxiety before each race. After completing a questionnaire about my levels of anxiety during initial testing, I found that they were moderately high. At the time I chose to work on more pressing development needs: speed and power. But having now improved these physical factors I am going to address the problems that anxiety is causing to my performance. Being anxious before the race create negative nervous energy which depletes my muscles meaning the cannot function at 100%. Worrying about false starts distracts my mind and stops me concentrating on my technique. Working on it will allow me to prepare both mentally and physically before each race and perform to the best of my ability on race day. I will be relaxed, in ‘the zone’ and ready to perform.

Don’t contradict yourself… Now it’s your turn to write an answer… Remember! Don’t contradict yourself… If you have identified, for example technique as a strength in your previous FIP answers, don’t then choose it as a future development need.
