Transition Nursery children have been working with P1 over recent weeks on a mini Dinosaurs theme Nursery/P1 teachers have been liaising to share information Our P1 teachers have been involved in transition visits here and at partnership nurseries

Curriculum for Excellence Children in P1 are working within Early Level: Structured play and active learning Social and ability groupings Literacy Maths and Numeracy Health and Wellbeing Social Studies Science Technologies Expressive Arts RME

Class Organisation P1 classes are a maximum of 25 Composite class with oldest P1 children and youngest P2 children, as per Midlothian guidelines Differentiation to meet the needs of children within the classes Joint working between job-share members of staff and classes

Break and Lunch Bring a snack Water only throughout the day Milk can be ordered School dinners are free for P1-P3 Menu available on the website Bring your own healthy packed lunch Nut aware school Fruit one afternoon per week Chums system to help and support P1s in dinner hall and playground Staff in the playground and dining hall

Lunch Trial On Wednesday 22nd August parents from P1/2 are invited to join their child for lunch at 11.30am. There is a cost of £2.00. On Thursday 23rd August the parents from P1H are invited to join their child for lunch. This allows the children to have a practice before attending school full time the following week. P1 teachers and CHUMS will be on hand to support.

What should my child bring to school? School bag – not too small Pencil Case – pencils, coloured pencils, rubber, sharpener Blue Reading Bag Gym Bag – shorts, coloured t-shirt and gym shoes to keep in school for PE A healthy snack – no sweets Water Bottle – no fizzy or diluting juice Old paint shirt

What should my child wear? A Cornbank sweatshirt or cardigan A white or blue polo shirt Grey or black trousers or skirt/pinafore (or checked blue summer dress) PLEASE!!!!! We would ask that you label all clothing and accessories with your child’s name!

What if my child is unwell? Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell Telephone the school by 8.50am If you don’t phone, we MUST text and/or phone to establish the reason for absence If your child becomes unwell at school, a member of staff will contact you to discuss

What if my child has medication? All staff are trained in Emergency First Aid Consent form Regular medication e.g. inhaler Self-administered medication – see the office staff

How can you support us? Bring your child to the playground on the first day Collect your child from the playground Encourage your child to line up independently with their house Ensure the school has up-to-date contact details Check your child’s blue bag for letters etc Make sure everything is labelled Come along to our Parent Partnership meetings

How can you support us? Payment for trips, uniforms etc can be made via Parentpay (preferred option) www.parentpay.com Accounts for families new to the school cannot be set up until August Any cash/cheques that come into school should be in an envelope labelled with your child’s name and class

What communication can I expect from school? Regular newsletters from the Head Teacher One class newsletter per term from the class teacher Regular comments in the reading diary Informal discussions with the class teacher at the before or at end of school day if necessary 2 Parent Consultation appointments per year Written Progress Report in June Regular updates on the school website and Twitter An invitation to our Shared Starts, Curriculum Evenings, Open Days, Nativity and Assemblies The HT and DHT operate an open door policy - please do not hesitate to contact us
