Presentation transcript:

During His life and ministry, Jesus had done so much to teach His disciples about prayer; but now…as He is about to die, He chooses to teach them His greatest lesson yet by praying for Himself, them and future followers of Him.

John 17: 1-5 Jesus brought glory to God the Father on Earth by pointing mankind back to Him, so now He asks to be restored to glory in Heaven again.

John 17: 6-12 While on Earth, Jesus was entrusted for the care and development of His disciples, who were given to Him by God the Father. Now… Jesus ceremonially releases that care back to God & The Holy Spirit.

John 17: 13-19 Just as Jesus is holy and faced persecution for honoring God and was protected by God until His time was done… He prays for that for His disciples.

John 17: 20-26 Jesus’ greatest desire for future believers is that they may be united in love, so that Jesus may be seen in their lives… which will hopefully lead others back to God the Father.

Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

The Lord’s Prayer “Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in Earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
