In this presentation Continous strategic master planning process Innovative stormwater management Encouraging sustainable mobility

With a population of 120,000, Lahti is a growing, vibrant, BOLD ENVIRONMENTAL CITY

- Lahti is located near Lake Vesijärvi and smaller lakes - Lahti is located near Lake Vesijärvi and smaller lakes. Lakes don’t flood easily nor has serious wind or wave effect In the southern Lahti runs River Porvoonjoki and its side streams in low lands. They have risk of flooding. Flooding maps are fully used in land-use planning and buildings are not allowed in risk zones. However, possibility of hanging ice damns exist  winter flooding could occure in non-typical sites or cause higher flooding than we’re prepared for. - However, biggest risk of flooding in Lahti is caused by storm water in densily built and non-permeable areas. lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

Continous Master planning process enables different strategic focuses every 4 years. Now 2017-2020 focus is on sustainable mobility. The target year is 2030. lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

The Everyday Places and Routes material was collected in spring 2018 Made with Maptionnair map query - 530 respondents - 6500 places marked Four events in shopping centers - Over 300 participants - Locations, but ideas and feedback, also as text lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

Example of map analysis; positive and negative places lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

In the master planning process: Wide amount of side reports like the ecosystem services report, the quiet places study and the carbon sinks and storages report Impact assessments from various topics (local economics, cultural, ecosystem services, forestry, climate change) ~50 people participating impact assessment process Few alternative areas in the draft The Master plan draft map received comments 90, mostly via web pages and from citizens. Most comments were about forests and parks.  Next year to the city council for decision-making lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

Stormwater management innovations

Hennala, old military area in Lahti Open stormwater structures - 30 ha developing area - Architecture competition 2016 Minimizing the leaching of nutrients and harmful substances lauantai, 5. lokakuuta 2019

Planning storm water for city centre and the development area Aims for storm water planning : Multi-functional use of stormwaters, in middle on developing housing and service area. Climate change adaptation Coherent with the planning and architecture of the area Strom waters from the area and from city centre, via existing pipelines and new pumping station, and to treat city centre overflows Soil is clay Especially need to treat phosphorus and heavy metals from the storm water Bio-filtration Testing different materials with UniHelsinki Follow-up lahti.fi/puhdashulevesi

Cost-efficient hybrid storm water solution in Lahti Detention pool Water exit Bio-filtration in three sections Stormwater to the system Channel Wetland lahti.fi/puhdashulevesi

Citizenzs’ cap and trade co-created Citicap aims to reduce emissions from transport, collect and make available digital data on mobility and develop new transport services for citizens. The CitiCap project will experiment with a personal carbon trading scheme for mobility as part of the Lahti region’s transport policy produce a platform for mobility mass data build a 3 km main cycle route based on smart solutions See https://www.smartlahti.fi/citicap/

Weekly personal cap, based on the Lahti emission target App automaticly detects the transport you’re using And calculates emissions Pilot phase at the moment Coming: more realistic emissions of your car , socially acceptable varying caps for different groups of people If you undercut your weekly cap, you’ll gain profits like discounts and services University studies coming
