COURSE INTRODUCTION Prof.Giglioni 1

Course organisation Monographic course (Giglioni): 2 academic hours each, in the first semester (2 days/week) Language training classes (King/Potter): 2 hours each, in the first semester (2days/week). Students from A to L: Prof. King Students from M to Z: Prof . Potter 2

Course objectives & learning outcomes advancing students’ foreign language competence (4 skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking) 2) consolidating previous language knowledge 3

Expected Outcomes Course target language level: B1+ 4

Expected Outcomes plus: corresponds to independent users of the language, i.e. those who have the necessary fluency to communicate without effort with native speakers 5

CEFRL The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) is the system that defines and explains the different levels of oral and written expression and comprehension for foreign languages. It consists of 6 levels of reference: three blocks (A or basic user, B or independent user and C or proficient user), which are in turn divided into two sublevels, 1 and 2.  6 6

(see Giglioni pagina personale) Assessment Written language test : Testing grammar, vocabulary, and listening - cloze test - dictation - listening & comprehension - vocabulary (gap filling) A FEW DAYS LATER… (see Giglioni pagina personale) Oral language test: Interview with either lettori or prof. Giglioni(selected readings which will be analysed during lettorati and 1 article of your choice) 12

Assessment All the parts contribute to the final mark The written test is composed of 4 parts: you need to get at least 18 in each of them. Students have to pass the written test in order to access the oral. If you fail the written test, you will have to do it again the following appello. N.B.:if you want, you can refuse your written test mark (you don’t need to tell the staff, simply you don’t show up the day of the oral test). Please consider you won’t be able to access the interview on that appello and you take responsibility for getting a lower mark for the written test in the future (or a higher one). 13

Certificates  

Certificates You are requested to bring your certificate to prof. Giglioni for validation by the end of October. The certificate needs to be recent (not more then 2 yrs) (office hours: Friday from 3 to 4 p.m.)
