How to See Your Counselor To request an appointment with your counselor, you will need to scan your counselor’s QR Code (QR Codes are located in the counseling office). Answer the questions on the Google Form from your cell phone & hit “Submit.” If you do NOT have a QR Reader, there are instructions in the counseling office on how to download a QR Reader App so that you can sign up to see your counselor. If you do NOT have a cell phone, you may use the laptop in the counseling office to request an appointment with your counselor.

RISD College and Career Fair! Saturday- Sept. 14th 7:30 AM- 1:00 PM Berkner High School Buses will run from LHHS every twenty minutes beginning at 8:00 A.M.

GPA GPA information is posted on your transcript. It is also posted in Naviance. Automatic admission to UT is top 6%.

Transcript Can be used for scholarship applications and any other use that calls for an unofficial transcript. Hang on to your transcript.

FINANCIAL AID FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid Must be completed before your college will offer you financial assistance This year’s FAFSA opens Oct. 1st Apply electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov Do not go to www.fafsa.com! This is a commercial site that will try to charge you to help you complete the form. TASFA – Non US Citizens will complete this document. See counselor or College & Career Coordinator

Applications for Colleges www.applytexas.org: Use this application for each Texas public university you are applying. You do not need a letter of recommendation for state schools. www.commonapp.org: Use this application for private and out of state universities (unless you use their specific application). Be sure and download all of the forms for counselor and teacher recommendations Mid-year report and final report go to your counselor If you are applying to OU, use their specific application, NOT Common App.

Requesting a Letter of Recommendation Sign up to see your counselor for the three part packet Many of you may have completed this when you submitted your senior project “last year.” When complete, bring in the completed packet and a “Request for Counselor” form for each school you are applying that requires a recommendation letter. REQUESTING A TRANSCRIPT Request Forms are available in the Counseling Office at Mrs. Badger’s desk. Always request your transcript from Mrs. Badger. You are required to request all transcripts in Naviance as well. Parchment is for graduates only. Parent signature is required if you are under 18 May file a signed blanket permission slip if you are under 18 Separate request form is required for each transcript sent. 2 transcripts are free over the 11th and 12th grades (combined)- $10 flat fee after that and you can send as many as you want ($5 if you are on F/R lunch). Keep a copy for personal use – your GPA is posted on your transcript!!!

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS SAT I or ACT: typically required for admission to 4 year college – either are accepted If you are applying to a 4yr college and you have not yet taken the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT, you need to register ASAP!!!!! SAT/ACT not required for admission to community colleges SAT Subject Tests exams are sometimes required by highly competitive schools Fee Waivers are available for students who qualify – ACT: 2 waivers and unlimited college application fee waivers. -- SAT: 2 reasoning and 2 subject test waivers and 4 college application fee waivers. -- Please see Mrs. Finklea in the College and Career Center in the Counseling Office

EOC Retests will be this December EOC/STAAR TESTING All students are required to take and pass all 5 STAAR exams in order to graduate. (unless you completed the course out of state, or you finished the course at a private school.) EOC Retests will be this December English 1, English2, Algebra1, Biology & US History Check with your grade level administrator and teacher for tutoring/preparation opportunities regarding all STAAR tests.

Testing Dates for CORRESPONDENCE & CBE’s If you are taking a correspondence course (including the exam), it must be completed by December 13, 2019. Please sign up to see your counselor to schedule the test date!
