Welcome to year 3 Miss Latter September 2019

The key differences between year 2 and 3 Whole class learning. Children to develop the ability to become independent learners. Children to have more ownership over their learning.

What do we do all day? The children will come into class and start their Maths fluency, this is also a chance for the children to change reading books and to show me any messages in their planners. Maths – we are following a whole class approach to learning, we focusing on the deeper understanding, fluency and quick recall to support. We use the programmes Power Maths and White Rose to support English – a range of skills are covered, including fiction, non fiction and poetry. Topic – This term we are looking at the Stone Age

Home learning MATHLETICS – The children to focus on place value. FLUENCY – On a Friday, the website will have a set of the fluency questions that I will give the children on the Monday. This is to help them prepare. SPELLINGS – Your child will be given a spelling list based on the words they have been focussing on in class. TOPIC MENU – The children can choose to complete as many of the activities as they want. We will have an exhibition of the children’s work at the end of each term.

READING - Your child is responsible for changing their own books once they have finished reading it at home. We avoid levels in class when children are doing quiet reading and the children have free choice, We are currently giving out levelled books for children to read to an adult where needed.

Please remember! Forest school is on a Wednesday. Any parent helpers welcome? Children to bring in a snack – Year 3 is a big jump from year 2 and the children need lots of energy. To have a water bottle. To have their uniform all labelled

Thank you for all your support! Are there any questions?
