Flow diagram of the patient cohort. 3018 patients were admitted to our institution with acute gastrointestinal bleeding during the study period. After excluding patients with lower gastrointestinal bleeding and removing the upper and lower 5% (Winsorization), we divided the cohort into those with cirrhosis (1034 patients) and those without cirrhosis (991). We then further subdivided the cirrhosis cohort into variceal (555 patients) and non-variceal bleeding (479 patients) groups. Don C Rockey et al.
