FAFSA Information Any student interested in college or career college should complete the FAFSA, regardless of financial need. How is FAFSA used? FAFSA Application FAFSA - Free Application www.fafsa.ed.gov FAFSA for 2020-21 opens on October 1, 2019 – Students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA at the earliest possible date. FAFSA Tips FAFSA is a long document. It can be completed in one session, or it can be saved and completed in multiple sessions. REMEMBER Create your FSA ID first for student and parent. ASVAB at DHS – October 29 Juniors and seniors may take the ASVAB – military aptitude test – on October 29 at 8 AM at DHS ASVAB sign ups will be available in the guidance office from October 7 - 23 ASVAB is 2 hours and 34 minutes long and will be administered by military recruiters. 145 questions on the following topics: General Science Arithmetic Reasoning Word Knowledge Paragraph Comprehension Mathematics Knowledge Electronics Information Auto and Shop Information Mechanical Comprehension Assembling Objects ASVAB Study Guide https://uniontestprep.com/asvab/study-guide

Senior Payment Plan Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 19 from 7 – 10 PM in the DHS gym. Tickets will be on sale October 2 – 15 at the school store during Flex for $25. The first Senior Package payment of $55 is due October 18 at the school store and includes the Homecoming Dance ticket. However, DHS encourages seniors to purchase homecoming dance tickets from October 2 – 15, and the $25 ticket price will be deducted from the first Senior Package payment on October 18. Homecoming tickets are limited and will be sold on first come, first served basis.

Ridge Career College Ridge Career College is hosting an open house on October 31. DHS will provide transportation to RCC for the trip from 9 – 11:15 AM on October 31. Students interested in attending the open house must use the DHS transportation. Attending the Open House Pick up an information and permission slip for the trip Return the sign permission slip and $3 to the school store between October 21 – 25 from 12 – 12:30.

ACT/SAT Sign Up Day – October 16 All 10th graders will take the PSAT and there will be a school wide testing schedule with an extended Focus. Seniors must report to Focus on this day, as counselors will spend time in each class helping students sign up for SAT or ACT. Many students have not taken these tests, which are needed for Bright Futures Scholarships or 4 year college acceptance.

Senior Work Study Program DHS will allow seniors, who meet all graduation requirements, are employed, and have their own transportation to leave school at 12 PM. Students must complete and turn in the following documents by October 18. A copy of their current work schedule. A verification of employment letter on company letterhead. Students and parents must then meet with the counselor to review grades, work study guidelines, and work study agreement.

Who should not complete Work Study? Students who are planning to attend college or university. Students who are in AP classes. These classes are only offered at specific times and schedules may not be altered to fit work study. Students who do not have a 2.0 GPA, are not passing current graduation requirements, or have not passed all assessments for graduation.

Questions
