Welcome to sixth grade! 08/06/2019 Beginning of Class Procedures: DO NOT BRING YOUR BACKPACK UNTIL YOU GET YOUR LOCKER. You’ll get a locker around the 3rd week of school, after you return all of your paperwork. Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Breakfast is over at 9:15. First period will begin immediately after announcements. If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. Help yourself to the books on the bookshelf. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

Language Arts – Warm Up 08/06/19 First, read the letter. Everyone should be silent so we can focus on reading. Purple = from Ms. Thurman Pink = from Mrs. Guglielmi (1st Period Only) Blue = from Mr. Lilley (2nd Period Only)

Language Arts – Work Session 08/06/19 Essential Question: How can I effectively communicate the task? Standard: ELACC6W4 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

Language Arts – Closing Session 08/06/19 All About Me Letter You will write a letter informing me of all the things you think I should know about you. Some ideas to include: Where you’re from Your family/pets Hobbies Fun facts Places you’ve traveled/want to visit Your letter must be AT LEAST four paragraphs. Remember, a paragraph consists of at least five sentences each.

Language Arts – Closing Session 08/06/19 Revising/Editing As you review your work, add sensory language and correct any mistakes. If you did not finish your letter in class, you may finish it tonight for homework. It is due tomorrow. Don’t forget! Your parent homework is due by Friday, August 9, 2019.

Reading Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/06/19 Read a book of your choice. When you finish the book, see me to complete your book recommendation form. You must read at least 3 books this nine weeks and complete the corresponding book recommendation. You will have time in class to read, but you could also read on your own, too. You may certainly read more to earn more points!

Writing Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/06/19 Choose one of the following topics and write at least one paragraph (5 complete sentences) about it. If you could become a cartoon character who would you be?  Why? What would you do? If you could change 3 things about school, what would you change? What would you do instead? If you could only have a computer OR a TV, which would you pick?  Why? What do you think makes the best lunch?  Why? If you could do whatever you wanted right now, what would you do? Free write about a topic of your choice.
