MEASLES 43 confirmed cases in Michigan since 3/13/19 As of today, no cases in Shiawassee County 40 cases in Oakland County, one in Wayne County and one in the City of Detroit. Age range from 8 months to 63 years; a majority of the cases involve adults.
MEASLES Transmission: Airborne Remains airborne for 2 hours Contagious 4 days before/after rash appears Symptoms: High fever, cough, Runny nose (coryza), and Red, watery eye Red spots (mouth) may appear 2-3 days after initial symptoms Body rash appears 3-5 days after initial symptoms Complications: Ear infections Diarrhea Pneumonia Encephalitis

MEASLES Vaccination 1st dose 12-15 months; 2nd dose 4 – 6 years old 1 dose 93% protected; 2nd dose 97% protected Effective 72 hours after administered. Adults born before 1957 considered immune due to likely exposure. Measles immunization program started in 1963. Exclusion/exposure guidelines in school/daycare Probable or confirmed case of measles excluded from school for at least 4 days after onset of rash (count the day of rash onset as day zero). A single case of confirmed measles in a school, daycare or group setting requires exclusion of all (under-vaccinated, waivered or non-immune) individuals, for 21 days past the date of rash onset/date Under-vaccinated individuals who receive a required 2nd dose of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine may return if they receive it within 3 days of initial exposure.
