Presentation transcript:

Topic – Water and Rivers English We will begin the term by basing our English lessons around the poetry from ‘The Works’ edited by Pie Corbett. The children will focus on rehearsing sentences orally and using expanded noun phrases. Later, we will move on to reading ‘Oliver and the Seawigs’’ By Philip Reeve, where they will practice planning and drafting their writing, extending the range of sentences with more than one clause by using a wider range of conjunctions, including when, if, because and although. Religious Education Through our RE lessons the children will explore the concept of prayer within Christianity. It will introduce/reintroduce children to the Lord’s Prayer and its important place as a foundation of prayer within Christianity. Maths This half term the children will develop skills in : Fractions – equivalence, adding and subtracting fractions and fractions of objects and amounts. Decimals - recognise and write decimal equivalents of any number of tenths or hundredths, as well as to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. Finding the effect of dividing a one or two digit number by 10 or 100. Year 4 Summer Term 1 Topic: Water and Rivers Big Question: Why does water matter? Wow Start: Water Collage Fantastic finish: Water Works Visit - date TBC Daily Mile The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children. For 10 minutes of the days they don’t have PE, children are physically active (run, jog or walk). Topic – Water and Rivers Art - We will be looking at artist’s work inspired by water, rivers and the sea. We will then create mixed media weavings. We’ll explore the role and importance of water in our world, including activities, worksheets and games on the water cycle, rivers of the world and the ecosystem of a beach. STEM Science: We will finish the unit we began last half term (classification of animals; grouping them in relation to characteristics and habitats). Computing Technology: Design, write and debug programs through the use of Espresso coding. Use search technology effectively linking to our Topic as well as using the computers to support cross curricular learning.
