MGISAC Regional Geospatial Workshops Missouri Spatial Data Information Service – Utilizing Current Services and Planned Additions By Mark Duewell MSDIS Program Manager duewellm@missouri.edu MGISAC Regional Geospatial Workshops
MSDIS isn’t content to be the same old song and dance…
Funding received from 2 projects FGDC/USGS Cooperative Agreement Program 2005 - $11,000 - Build a backup server to serve Missouri’s National Map data layers USGS Fiscal 2006 EOY funds – $94,300 Servers, software, training - $73,000 Remote classroom expansion, Mapping Grade GPS loan program - $21,300
Does MSDIS look the same? In some respects - but… MSDIS and other hosted web services are faster… Storage space has increased substantially Servers maintained 24-7 – contracted to UMC IATS – 3 year plan for replacement Complete mirror site in Kansas @ KU, Lawrence No more MSDIS-Web – now – http://www.msdis.missouri.edu Multiple services reside on a single server
MODAL – Missouri Data and Locations - Mapping Grade GPS unit loan program to collect local data in the public domain … Available now… Available to all on a scheduled basis… Training program will eventually be developed… Expected that data layers collected will be made available for MSDIS to serve in the public domain – explicit in signing the equipment sign-out sheet.
MSDIS….The future? Serving Imagery for the State Complete review – January 2008 Ramona – NSGIC’s Online Data Inventory Full integration into MGISAC’s New Strategic Plan – FGDC 50 States Initiative User responsiveness – serving data in its native format – shapefiles etc…
MSDIS….The future? Serving as a backup resource for local data… Many Lgovs don’t have the funds - nor staff - to provide data redundancy. Outreach Improving geospatial expertise statewide Providing training on a wider range of subjects Sponsoring or supporting geospatial workshops such as this one
