Systems of Power (SCUF) Unitary Confederation Federal

UNITARY Long definition: One central government controls weaker states. Power is not shared between states, counties, or provinces. Central government can change the way local governments operate or eliminate them completely Monarchies are examples of unitary governments Saudi Arabia

Confederation Long definition: A weak or loose organization of states that agree to follow a central government. Each state makes its own laws and the central government is only concerned about defense and trade Central government only has the power given to it by states No current examples of confederation governments but some organizations work this way: OPEC, League of Arab States. The Confederate State of America used this system.

FEDERAL Long definition: Power is shared by a powerful central government and states or provinces that are given considerable self-rule, usually through their own legislatures Power is divided among different levels of government such as central and local Examples of federal governments: United States, Israel
