Initial Design At this point, I am almost positive that my design meets specifications; I just need to make it stronger. I intend to use Titebond wood glue for building and I believe that I am going to have most of the weight of the sand focused on the very tip of my boomilever.

First Boomilever While building, I decided to flip my boomilever upside down because I didn’t believe that it would be strong enough the way I originally planned it. I also used more glue than I planned to and used push pins to help it dry tighter. I also decided not to build some of the X’s on the top and bottom.

First Test I need to improve the gluing of the boomilever to the base and definitely find a way to reinforce the tip much more than I did. The only part that broke off immediately was the tip, so if I improve that, it should hold more. I did meet all of the specifications. Mass of boomilever = 46.20 grams. Mass of sand held = 1620 grams. Efficiency = 1620 grams/46.2 grams; 30.1

Second Boomilever I glued the base to the boomilever with a different and stronger glue, hoping that it would stay better. I laminated the wood around the tip to try and reinforce it so that it wouldn’t break off as easily. I also patched up some loose pieces with extra glue.

Second Test My efficiency barely improved because I believe that mine was not glued together properly and to its full potential. I need to change the glue I used and reinforce the tip once again. I met all of the specifications. Mass of boomilever = 42.21 g. Mass of sand held = 1280 g. Efficiency = 1280 g/42.21 g; 30.3.
