Questions for Candidates Katie Breslin, Young Adult Program Manager at Friends Committee on National Legislation

Why Should We Engage Candidates With Questions To find out more information about their stance To understand their values To show urgency around an issue To persuade the members to support your issue

Your impact As a constituent As a medical student

Where to find candidates In your community! Information on their website Through local clubs and organizations TownHallProject.com

Before you ask… Do your research! Is there current legislation? What data or research will this elected official respond well to? Are there resources that can help you craft a question? FCNL.org/Congress Is there current legislation?

What makes a perfect question Avoid partisan language. Center questions around how this will impact the topic Think about what is the “right” answer. Keeping it broad vs being specific. Keep an open mind! Give them time to answer the question.

YOU DID IT! But your job isn’t done.

Follow up! Get contact information from staffer If you can’t, call the office and ask for the scheduler. Be specific in the email. Ask for a lobby visit!
