InternationaI Hockey Federation Worldwide governing body for ice hockey and in-line hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland and has 76 members. It was run by 18 presidents and the 18th one has been on the post since 1994.

History of IIHF The International Ice Hockey Federation was founded on 15 May 1908. The second congress was held from 22–25 January 1909 in Chamonix, France. The third LIHG Congress was held on 9 January 1910 in Montreux, Switzerland. The first European Championship began in Les Avants a day after the conclusion of the congress. It was won by Great Britain.

The beginnings of Slovak hockey team Bandy hockey was number one in Slovakia, too. Canadian hockey got only popularised during the European Championship in High Tatras in 1925. The year 1929 is the milestone of the ice hockey in Slovakia, when the first volume of the Tatra Cup was organised in Starý Smokovec. Two days later, on January 31st, 1929, the first Slovak hockey organisation was established under the name of Slovenská župa kanadského hokeja as a part of the Czechoslovak Ice Hockey Federation.
