Mr. Peter Richard Complex Numbers Using the TI 83 Plus Calculator Granville Central School Taught by Mr. Peter Richard

Setting the Calculator Press MODE key Use the down ARROW key and select a+bi Press ENTER.

Adding Complex Numbers Add the two complex numbers: (2+3i ),(-1+4i) Locate the i key (Press 2ND then .) Type: (2 + 3i) + (-1 + 4i) Press ENTER. The sum is (1 + 7i) DONE

Subtracting Complex Numbers Subtract the two complex numbers: (2+3i ),(-1+4i) Locate the i key (Press 2ND then .) Type: (2 + 3i) - (-1 + 4i) Press ENTER. The difference is (3 - i) DONE

Multiplication of Complex Numbers Multiply the two complex numbers: (2+3i ),(-1+4i) Locate the i key (Press 2ND then .) Type: (2 + 3i) (-1 + 4i) Press ENTER. The product is (-14 + 5i) DONE

Division of Complex Numbers Divide the two complex numbers: (2+3i ) by (-1+4i) Locate the i key (Press 2ND then .) Type: (2 + 3i) / (-1 + 4i) Press ENTER. Your answer will be in decimal form. Use the MATH key to convert it to fraction form. The quotient is (10/17 – 11/17i ) DONE
