Bullying and Harassment

What is Bullying? Bullying is unwanted and aggressive. Bullying involves a real or perceived power imbalance. Power imbalances involve physical strength, access to embarrassing information or popularity. Bullying is repeated or has the potential to be repeated, over time.

What are the Types of Bullying? Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things and includes: Teasing Name-Calling Inappropriate Sexual Comments Taunting Threatening to Cause Harm

What are the Types of Bullying? Social Bullying involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships and includes: Leaving someone out on purpose Telling others not to be friends with someone Spreading rumors about someone Embarrassing someone in public

What are the Types of Bullying? Physical bullying involves hurting a person’s body or possessions and includes: Hitting/kicking/pinching Spitting Tripping/pushing Taking or breaking someone’s things Making mean or rude hand gestures

What are the Types of Bullying? Cyberbullying involves sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, exposing, false or mean content about someone else. Examples of cyberbullying include: mean text messages or emails rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles

How Can YOU Stop Bullying?

Be More: Be a Friend to the Person being Bullied Tell a Trusted Adult (i.e. counselor, administrator, teacher) Don’t Give Bullying an Audience, Walk Away With cyberbullying never respond to or forward cyberbullying messages. Block the person who is cyberbullying. Tell a trusted adult.

Be More: Use the Safe Utah App Provides you with free and confidential crisis services You can report information on bullying, support you need or support a friend may need. From this APP, Union’s counselors and administrators receive information and we will support you.
