GOALS OF THE HILLSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETIC PROGRAM -TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN ATHLETICS -TO DEVELOP CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMITMENT, TEAMWORK AND RESPONSIBILITY/ ACCOUNTABILITY TO SELF AND OTHERS, INCLUDING TEAMMATES AND COACHES -TO HAVE FUN WHILE DEVELOPING FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS THAT WILL LEAD TO FUTURE SUCCESS ON AND OFF THE FIELD/COURT/MAT(SUPPORTING 7-12 PROGRAM)

Goals cont. DEVELOP ATTITUDES/BEHAVIORS OF GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP TO PROVIDE QUALITY FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT THROUGH REVENUE/FUNDRAISING EFFORTS MOST IMPORTANT IS TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT/ATHLETE AS A WELL- ROUNDED INDIVIDUAL WHERE ACADEMICS IS THE PRIORITY AND FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES THE GOAL

NORMANDY 8TH GRADE STUDENTS All 8th grade students will be provided transportation to Hillside MS afterschool for practices and games 8th grade students should report immediately to the directed areas (locker room, classroom, etc.) and not wandering the hallways of Hillside MS Please reinforce these rules with your child

ATHLETICS START/END DATES FOOTBALL: AUGUST 1-OCTOBER 15 VOLLEYBALL: AUGUST 1-OCTOBER 12 CROSS COUNTRY: AUGUST 1-OCTOBER 12 BOYS BASKETBALL: OCTOBER 21-JANUARY 22 GIRLS BASKETBALL: DECEMBER 9-MARCH 12 WRESTLING: NOVEMBER 11-FEBRUARY 8 BOYS/GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: MARCH 8-MAY 15

Chain of Communication Always contact your child’s coach first if there is a concern, especially with respect to playing time or game strategy. Please wait 24 hours after a game before expressing a concern to a coach. Unresolved issues should then be taken to Mr. Ziemianski. If there is still no resolution the issue can be referred to Mrs. Cook

OHSAA ALL OF OUR COACHES INCLUDING VOLUNTEERS HAVE THESE REQUIREMENTS: NFHS FUNDAMENTALS OF COACHING PUPIL ACTIVITY VALIDATION CPR/AED CERTIFICATION CONCUSSION CERTIFICATION BACKGROUND/FINGERPRINTING www.ohsaa.org

FINAL FORMS All paperwork is submitted via Final Forms. Entry for 2018-2019 begins May 15 No student who has not properly completed forms will not be eligible to participate http://parma-oh.finalforms.com Both parent and student must log in using an email address and password Biggest problem is students not being able to log in and sign forms. If possible, have them use their PCSD email

FINAL FORMS All forms will be completed online and stored at Final Forms. In order to participate, all forms must be completed and signed by both a parent and student. Once completed, you will only need to update signatures each year your child is participating in athletics in the PCSD Final Forms will serve as the Athletic Department’s system of communication with parents

Parent Expectations Cheer positively for your child and for Hillside MS/Normandy HS Keep perspective. These are 12-14 year old boys and girls and we must be sensitive to their emotional as well as physical well being Follow the chain of communication when you have a concern **All areas at Hillside MS (inside and outside) are non-smoking. Please model appropriately for our students

ELIGIBILITY Requirements MUST LIVE IN THE PARMA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT MUST be in 7th/ 8th grade and not turn 15 before Aug 1st MUST have a 1.0 GPA and pass 5 or more classes IN PREVIOUS MARKING PERIOD MUST have a current OHSAA Physical Exam Form, signed AND dated by doctor (NO EXCEPTIONS) MUST complete ALL required paperwork—FINAL FORMS

Pay to Participate Fee ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS HAVE A $100 PARTICIPATION FEE. SECOND SPORT IS $75, THIRD SPORT IS $50 SOME SPORTS HAVE AN ADDITIONAL UNIFORM FEE-TEAM SHIRTS, SHORTS, SWEATS, SOCKS, ETC (ANYTHING PURCHASED IS YOURS TO KEEP) ALL CHECKS/MONEY ORDERS ARE MADE OUT TO “PARMA CITY SCHOOLS”

ADMISSION Per GLC by-laws, admission for all football, volleyball and basketball games is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Senior citizens and children under 5 are free. Tournament admission fees are $4 and $2. Please note that some schools may not charge admission because of board policy or facility considerations.

Practice Practice for all middle school sports is directly after school unless otherwise stated, typically from 3:00-5:00. Track practices usually run shorter 8th graders will be transported daily to Hillside Middle School You must pick up your child in a timely manner due to limits in supervision, FAILURE MAY RESULT IN LIMITATION IN PARTICIPATION
