Slide 1 – Introduce part 2 of the UniHEroes project to the students.

Slide 2 – This is part 2 of 3 workshops which will introduce the concept of higher education and university to the students.

Slide 3 – Recap the buzzwords from session 1 with the students Slide 3 – Recap the buzzwords from session 1 with the students. Help them with the words if they are struggling.

YOUR MISSION... To learn how university can help you get a job. To uncover what famous celebrities did at university. Discover what a society is and create one. Slide 4 – The students mission in this session.

Slide 5 – As a starter, show the students the video which showcases the things you can do at a students union. This is a video from the University of Sheffield, but make sure that the students are aware that the things depicted in this video can happen at any university. If the video does not work in the presentation, then click the box in the bottom left corner which will take you to the video on Youtube.

Slide 6 – Explain to the students that they will now be playing Uni Triumphs. This is similar to the game Top Trumps. Also hand out the Uni Triumphs cards to the students, which are included in the lesson plan. Make sure all of the Uni Triumphs cards are handed out to the students.

Slide 7 – Explain how you will reveal a job as part of the presentation. The skill and its value will be revealed one by one. The students need to look for the skills and its value and compare this to their own card that relates to a certain degree.

Slide 8 – Tell the students that they need to look at their degree card and see if they have the same skill to the one that comes up on the board. If they have the skill and the number is the same or higher, then they stay standing. Whoever is standing at the end when all of the skills have been shown, wins.

Show the different skills and their values and make sure all the students who have that skill and it’s value as the same or higher on their cards are still standing. Those who do not sit back down. Slide 13 – Go through each celebrity and ask the students whether they know who they are and what they have done. Give out the Super Celebrity Squares sheets to the students which are in the lesson plan. Ask the students to match up the celebrity to the degree they think they did. When they are done, ask them to tell you who they have matched up.

Slide 19 – Explain to the students that they will now find out what societies are in relation to university. Say that they are groups or clubs that you can join or even create. They range in a huge range of different areas.

Slide 20 – Talk through the different types of societies that you can join at university. Make sure that the students are aware that you can have societies in all sorts of areas, and give them example of things they are interested in. And now...

Slide 21 – Give the students the Design the Society sheets and colours which are in the lesson plan. Encourage them to design a society about whatever they are interested in. When they have finished let them showcase their societies to the rest of the class.

Slide 22 – Go through the buzz words with the students and ask them to give you a definition for each one. If they are not sure help them with the answers.
