What are our homes made of? Year 2

By the end of this topic, you will be able to: Identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, rock, brick, paper and cardboard for particular uses. Find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. Work scientifically by: comparing the uses of everyday materials, carrying out observations, identifying and classifying the uses of different materials, and recording our observations.

Do you know what these words mean? stretching squashing twisting bending malleable cardboard glass metal rock solid plastic brick wood solid

Key questions: Why is glass a good material to make windows out of? What does ‘waterproof’ mean? Why are bricks used to build houses? Could any other material be used?

What else would you like to find out?
