Stuck In Neutral Chapters 1-4

Chapter 1 1. Shawn lives in Seattle. Its one of the only places where is euthanasia is legal. This is kind of scary for Shawn because his Dad might kill him. 2. Shawn’s good news is that he has photographic memory. This means that he is able to remember anything and everything. Its ironic because he can’t share it with anyone.

Chapters 2 and 3 1. Shawn has cerebral palsy and grand mal seizures. These seizures are the worst kinds because they are extremely painful. Shawn’s disorder makes his limbs uncontrollable and he can’t speak or eat. 2. Shawn’s family has to take care of him all day, every day. His dad left because he couldn’t stand to see his father in so much pain.

Chapters 2 and 3 continued 3. The author included this scene because it made Shawn afraid of death. He believes that his father might kill him, and it makes Shawn afraid. 4. Shawn is unable to communicate with anyone and all his thoughts are inside his own head.

Chapter 4 Appearance- I assume he looks like his son, but older. (Brown hair, brown eyes) Name analysis- Is name is Sydney E. McDaniel, he won a Pulitzer Prize for a poem he wrote, so people know his name. Attitude- He seemed like a regular guy, until he threw the glass at the crow and he got enraged. Dialogue- He started cursing at the crow but was really nice to his son while talking. Traits- He seems nice at some points, but he can also get mad. Thoughts- N/A Reaction toward others- Shawn was scared of his father while he was talking to the crow. Act/Incident- He left the family after Shawn was born and rarely visits.
