Course Syllabus: Math Research Course I Mrs. Sluder MCSMS Room 202 sludera@duvalschools.org 904-247-5977 ext 202 Mathematics may not teach us how to ADD love or SUBTRACT hate but it gives us every reason to hope that every problem has a solution. Math Research is an elective class designed to provide students differentiated support using computer programs, individualized workbooks, manipulatives, games, group projects, and skill set practice so that students can build foundational concepts and apply mathematical strategies successfully to real world math applications. Supply List: Notebook (Spiral or Composition) Pocket folder to place inside 3-ring binder Pencils Erasers Ear buds/headphones Reusable water bottle Students will be administered a student workbook to use daily in class. A+ GRADING ONEVIEW Math180 You can make the GRADE: Grades will be determined based on tests, quizzes, class work, and home learning. Letter grades follow the Duval County Public schools grading scale: A : 100-90 B: 89-80 C: 79-70 D: 69-60 F: 59-0 Gradebook is configured to identify missing/incomplete assignments as a “0” until assignments are completed and submitted. GRADING Math Research Assignments are weighted accordingly: 60% Summatives: Test/Quizzes Standards Based mastery 40% Formatives: Bell Ringers Classwork Exit Tickets Online Lessons A+ Class Dojo Class Dojo is an app used in the classroom to monitor behavior using a points reward system. Register for Class Dojo to send messages to teacher, get class updates, reminders, and check your students behavior by monitoring dojo points. School Website Students are to utilize the following websites weekly: FOCUS grade portal for upcoming and graded assignments MATH180 via blended learning Math Research OneNote electronic notebook via their school Oneview account Math180 ONEVIEW Students will utilize time in and out of class to complete weekly electronic assignments. 2 online MATH180 lessons per week Reference ONEVIEW for weekly videos and assessments. If students are unable to access internet outside of school, please communicate this to me so that alternative assignments can be provided. Student safety nets are in place for student success. If you are struggling with a concept or grade please use these resources wisely: family resource videos, Math tutoring during after school team up, peer tutors, assignment redo, assessment remediation, alternative assignment, and/or student conferencing.
