Presentation transcript:

Internal Organs:

4 quadrants: the torso is divided into into 4 quadrants RUQ LUQ RLQ LLQ

Spleen: acts primarily as a blood filter similar in structure to a large lymph node aids in synthesizing antibodies helps fight infection it is possible to live without a spleen LUQ spleen swells with mononucleosis

Liver: filtration system of the body clears the blood of bad substances cleans the blood each time it passes through the body essential organ mostly in the RUQ but some in LUQ

Kidney: located near your back on either side of the vertebrae. left kidney is posterior to the spleen. right kidney is posterior to the liver essential in the urinary system and filtration of blood and waste removal regulates electrolytes and blood pressure injury can cause blood in urine you can live without kidneys through dialysis

Bladder: collects urine excreted by the kidneys before disposal storage place you can live without a bladder but must have an artificial bladder. midline of RLQ and LLQ

Pancreas: produces hormones such as insulin produces enzymes that break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats those with type 1 diabetes have a non properly working pancreas (does not produce insulin) it is possible to live without a pancreas. must get hormones and enzymes through diet.

Gallbladder: storage place for bile not yet being used. bile aids in the digestion of fats in the small intestine this is an organ that we can live without.

Appendix: no real function in the human body humans can live without an appendix
