Presentation transcript:

Prescribing of over the counter medicines has changed Prescribing of over the counter medicines has changed. If you have a minor condition, your GP, nurse or pharmacist may not give you a prescription for an item you can buy over the counter.

Many common conditions can be treated with an over the counter medicine from your local pharmacy. You do not need to make an appointment to speak to the pharmacist, just pop into your local pharmacy anytime and they will be able to help you. The pharmacist can assess your symptoms, advise you on how to care for yourself and guide you to buy the medicine you need.

Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not routinely give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor conditions. Over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket and other shops.

This practice no longer routinely prescribes medicines which are available over the counter in pharmacies, supermarkets and other shops. If the medicines you need today can be bought without a prescription, you maybe asked to buy it.

Your Medicines Cabinet Be prepared for common conditions by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home. Some recommended items to keep at home may include: Pain relief Antihistamines Oral hydration salts Anti-diarrhoea tablets First aid kit Indigestion remedies Your local pharmacist can advise you on how to care for yourself and guide you to buy the medicine you need.
