Scheduling Allocations Over Multiple Channels Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 January 2017 Scheduling Allocations Over Multiple Channels Date: 2017-01-16 Authors: Lei Huang, Panasonic John Doe, Some Company

Background: Channel Access over Multiple Channels January 2017 Background: Channel Access over Multiple Channels In a EDMG BSS the BTI, A-BFT and ATI is always present on the primary channel of the BSS. IEEE 802.11ay shall support allocation of SP(s) and CBAP(s) over more than one channel and over a bonded channel through DMG Beacon frame, Announce frame and Grant frame. An allocation may not have the primary channel. CH 1 ( Primary) CH2 3 Data Allocation #1 Allocation #3 Allocation #2 Beacon/ Announce Allocation #4 Lei Huang, Panasonic

Background: EDMG Extended Schedule element January 2017 Background: EDMG Extended Schedule element The EDMG Extended Schedule element (ESE) defines incremental signaling to the ESE, including channel allocation indications if allocations are scheduled over more than one channel. The Channel Allocation field specifies the allocation and the bandwidth that the allocation occupies. The contents of the Allocation Key subfield are used to identify the allocation. This is done by correlating the contents of this subfield with the information obtained from the ESE transmitted in the same frame. The Channel Aggregation and BW subfields specify the properties of the allocation identified by the Allocation Key subfield. Lei Huang, Panasonic

Problem Statement January 2017 For an allocation which does not include the primary channel (e.g., Allocation #2), a DMG STA cannot decode EDMG ESE, it will wrongly treat the allocation as it is over the primary channel. As a result, the DMG STA may make confusion on that there exist overlapping allocations over the primary channel (e.g., Allocations #2 and #4). Note that spatial sharing mechanism is applicable to SP allocation only and is not implemented in any WiGig device. CH 1 ( Primary) CH2 3 Data Allocation #1 Allocation #3 Allocation #2 Beacon/ Announce Allocation #4 EDMG ESE ESE Lei Huang, Panasonic

January 2017 Proposal For an allocation that does not include the primary channel, its allocation information shall be completely and only included in the EDMG ESE. ESE includes the allocation information only for the allocations that include the primary channel. The size of the Channel Allocation field of EDMG ESE for an allocation depends on whether the allocation is based on incremental signaling or complete signaling. An Scheduling Allocation subfield shall be added into each Allocation field of EDMG ESE to indicate whether an allocation is based on incremental signaling or complete signaling. EDMG ESE format Example format of incremental Channel Allocation field Example format of complete Channel Allocation field Lei Huang, Panasonic Lei Huang, Panasonic

Proposal (cont.) January 2017 CH 1 ( Primary) CH2 3 Data Allocation #1 Allocation #3 Allocation #2 Beacon/ Announce Allocation #4 EDMG ESE ESE A DMG STA can detect Allocation #4 but cannot detect allocation #2. Thus it will not make any confusion. Lei Huang, Panasonic
