Summer Food Service Program for Children Thank you for your interest in helping to feed children in your community as a Sponsor in the Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP)! The following is information about how the Program works and the role of Sponsors and feeding sites, as well as the steps to apply to become a Sponsor. The SFSP operates during school vacations, during the months of May through September.

Purpose of the Program The purpose of the program is to reach children in need and ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session

Funding 100% USDA State of NM acts as the “pass through” agency NM CYFD provides meal reimbursement to local agencies approved to operate the Program Reimbursement is provided on a per-meal-served basis Reimbursement is provided for second meals Meals are claimed monthly for reimbursement

Sponsor Eligibility Must accept full and final financial responsibility for the Program Must maintain operational control at all meal site locations Must provide a year-round service to the community

Participant Eligibility 1-18 years of age At the meal site In the serving line No enrollment or registration requirement

Application Process Online Application (EPICS) State agency will provide access to application website Several hand-completed forms(one-time) Payment information Establish the organization as a State of NM Vendor (W-9 form) Voided Check for ACH Payments Letter from IRS stating issuance of FEIN Request for advance payments Must receive state agency approval before service of meals

Participant Rules Participant must be at the site, and in the serving line to receive a meal Must receive the entire meal, including milk Meal must be consumed on site

Main Sponsor Rules Must serve meals during the approved meal service time Meals served on a first come, first served basis No Discrimination during the course of the meal service May only serve two meal types at each site Must count and document meals as they are served (point of service) Must maintain children on site while they eat Site Supervisor At each site Must follow USDA meal pattern requirements Unallowable food items Meal disallowance

Administrative and Operational Staff Training Requirements State agency provides annual training sessions for Administrators/Monitors/Food Service Requirement for participation Director and/or coordinator must attend Administrative staff is responsible for providing the training to food service and meal site staff at a later time

Training for Monitors Sites for which they will be responsible How to conduct Monitoring Site Visits and Reviews Monitoring schedules (first 7-days and first 28-days) Reporting and recordkeeping procedures Follow-up procedures Civil Rights requirements Reporting racial/ethnic data Internal procedures

SFSP Meal Pattern Please separate your power point slides from your handouts. Please turn to the SFSP meal pattern handout to follow along. We will briefly go over the meal pattern requirements since we have some new sponsors. We will be happy to help new sponsors with ideas for menu ideas using the meal pattern as a guide.

SFSP Meal Pattern Update No changes for Summer 2019 School sponsors may choose one of the meal patterns listed below National School Lunch Program(NSLP) & School Breakfast Program(SBP) Offer Versus Serve Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Component base

Breakfast Three Required Components: Milk (1 cup) Vegetable, or fruit, or both (1/2 cup total) Limiting juice can increase milk consumption Grains (1 slice or 1 oz.) Whole Grain-Rich (recommended) Optional Meat/Meat Alternate (1 oz.) (recommended)

Lunch/Supper Four Required Components: Milk (1 cup) Meat/Meat Alternates (2 oz.) Grains (1 slice or 1 oz.) Whole Grain-Rich (recommended) Fruit/Vegetable (3/4 cup) 1 fruit + 1 vegetable (recommended) 2 fruits (different) 2 vegetables (different)

Snack Two required components: Milk (1 cup) Meat/Meat Alternates (1 oz.) Vegetables/Fruits (3/4 cup) Grains (1 slice or 1 oz.) Whole Grain-Rich (recommended) Example: Graham Snack Crackers + 1% Flavored/Unflavored Milk

Conclusion Our State Agency provides excellent customer service. This means showing our Sponsors how important he or she is to our Agency by interacting with individuals in a friendly, helpful, and positive way. Our staff will respond to phone calls and emails immediately. We provide our sponsors helpful quality service before, during, and after the Program so that requirements are met.
