Climate of the Amazon Do Now 13/10/2019 Do Now Mind map what you know about the Amazon rainforets Key words Biome Convection rain Ecosystem Nutrient cycle Learning Objectives To know what the nutrient cycle is To understand the impact deforestation has on the soil in the rainforest To be able to explain how road building affects the Amazon’s ecosystem

Where is the Amazon?

The Amazon River

Climate graph – the Amazon Describe the Amazon’s annual pattern of rainfall and temperature.. [3 marks] Temperature (ºC) 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 Rainfall (mm) EXT – Why is the temperature and rainfall high in rainforests?

Self Assessment Have you given your graph a title? Have you labelled your axis? Have you made a bar graph for rainfall? Have you made line graph for temperature? Have you made your rainfall bars using the y-axis on the left and your temperature line to the y-axis on the right? Have you described your graph using data as your evidence? Target:____________________

Describe the pattern of the climate of the Tropical Rainforest Describe the pattern of the climate of the Tropical Rainforest. You must include: Temperature When is hot? When is it cool? Rainfall When is it high? When is it dry? Have you included units? (Do you mean degrees Celsius or mm? From looking at my climate graph, I can see….. For example…..

Looking at your graph, try to work out which month fits each of the ten sentences best. Today is the hottest day in the year. Today "feels" like the coolest day of the year. The river flooded today. The weather has been almost the same for 3 months in a row. A canoe got stuck on a sandbank. A farmer was able to pick fruit today.

What have we learnt today? Learning Objectives To know what the nutrient cycle is To understand the impact deforestation has on the soil in the rainforest To be able to explain how road building affects the Amazon’s ecosystem What we will learn next… Deforestation
