Welcome to The Year 4 parent meeting. Year 4 Team

Curriculum In Year 4, we have lots of exciting new topics to learn throughout the year In autumn 1:Amazing Africa. Autumn 2: The Romans; Spring 1: Hinduism & Buddhism, Spring 2: Good to be Green, and Summer 1:The Victorians. Swimming/Specialist Teaching Swimming - One class will swim each term. 4CB :autumn term, 4EA :spring term and 4AG summer term. The children in the class that are swimming, must arrive at school by 8.45am on Friday mornings. Equipment* Music – This year, year 4 children will learn to play the ukulele. 4CB will have music in the autumn term. Forest School – We will also have a specialist forest school teacher who will be teaching each class for a term. The children will need to wear appropriate clothes for these sessions. 4AG will have forest school this term. Art: Specialist teaching. 4EA will have art sessions with our specialist teacher in autumn term.

PE It is essential that children have their PE kits in school everyday. This includes a Rhodes Avenue T-shirt (available from the school office), navy shorts, jogging bottoms, a warm top, spare socks and appropriate footwear. Children will be asked to remove or cover earrings before taking part in their PE session. PE Days: 4CB – Tuesday and Friday 4AG –Monday and Tuesday 4EA – Tuesday (double session)

Educational visits Educational visits are an important aspect of the Rhodes Avenue Curriculum. School visits and trips provide the opportunity to enrich learning outside of the classroom and inspire learning back at school.  The school will make every effort to keep the cost of the educational visits to a minimal by using public transport or by visiting free exhibitions.  Trip to Museum of London to learn about the Romans 7th November 2019 – 4AG 14th November 2019 – 4CB & 4EA November –French film at French Institute

Home Learning In year 4, children will be expected to read daily for 10-15 min. Please encourage your child to write in their reading record every week. They can borrow a book from the library or tell us about a book they have at home. Parents must sign this weekly and return it to the class teacher. Children will learn spellings and times tables on a weekly basis at school. Mathletics (free)/Maths Book (£1.99)to purchase on school money website Login for Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars will be given to children. Over the year, there will be a range of projects. Children should endeavor to complete one a term.
