Dichotomous Keys Dichotomous Key: A series of paired opposite statements that describe physical characteristics of different organisms. They are based on morphological classification – form and structure of an organism. These statements describe the presence or absence of certain visible characteristics

Each set of choices are arranged so that each step produces smaller subsets (narrows – more specific) Always begin at ONE every time for each organism you are trying to identify. Decide which statement best fits the picture and then follow what it says to do…either move to another number step or it will reveal its identity.
