G064 Coursework Project Problem Definition

Problem Definition [2 marks] Examiner is looking for 3 things: What the organization is and/or does Who the end user is The problem which the end user needs solving current methods – “how do they do it now?” problems that they have with the current methods

1. Background to the organisation 2-3 paragraphs probably less than half A4 page (see VLE exemplars) Include: Name of the business Where is the business located? Who set up the business? How many employees? How many customers? What do they do in general terms?

1. Background to the Organisation Sample questions that you might ask yourself: what is the name of the organisation? what does it do? where is it located? how many people does it employ? how many shops are there? what are the names and positions held of people who are going to be involved with the project? what are the problems/difficulties that they have?

2. Client & End Users Include: name the client describe the position & role of the client name any other ‘end users’ the employees who use the current system/methods describe their positions & roles

3. Current Methods Include brief descriptions of: how the business works at present probably paper-based start at the beginning of a transaction work your way to the end itemise all stages

3. Problems with Current Methods Include brief descriptions of issues: time taken to….., accuracy, security of system/personal data, loss of paper  loss of data, presentation quality
