Key Learning Outcomes Introduce and provide an overview of constructivism in nursing: Define constructivism Discuss constructivism in the nursing context Explain the concept of scaffolding

Constructivism “Constructivism in education is an epistemological perspective of learning focused on how students actively create (or “construct”) knowledge out of their experiences” (Wikipedia, 2019). Key theorists: Piaget , Dewey, Vygotsky and Von Glasersfeld Philosophy in education Learning theory Dewey: Piaget: Vygotsky: Vygotsky's zone of proximal development, Ernst V-G: Image by Gordon Johnson from Pixabay Key Reference: Wikipedia. Constructivism in Nursing Frameworks to create the learning environment. These can aid aligning content to nursing experience or skills expected to be learnt and assess. Scaffolding Learning  Clinical shifts regularly provide feedback opportunities through clinical supervision, along with performance management plans. Feedback must align with the nursing students learning objectives. For nurse mentors or peer support, the development of constructive feedback methods is essential as part of clinical supervision.  Reflection is a major component of development and learning, and applying frameworks, such as Gibbs (1988) and Johns (2009).
