SMALL ENSEMBLE UNIT What skills are necessary to learn a piece of music independently and where do I stand with regard to those skills? Check that students understand what an ensemble is.

MUSICIANSHIP Develop musical independence while building an understanding of the interdependence of parts within the ensemble. Confidently and independently sing/play your part Understand how the different parts fit together

PROCESS Learn and practice music without constant direction Collaborate effectively. Identify and prioritize problems, and choose strategies to address the musical challenges. Learn and practice music without constant direction Identify a problem spot and choose a practice strategy Select first “chunk” to be practiced. Identify specifically HOW that section needs to be improved. Review practice strategies

PERFORMANCE Present the performance in a confident manner and deal appropriately with nerves and errors. Reach a level of perfection that is predictable & repeatable Receive specific and individualized feedback on your skill development
