slow stitching – what is it? It’s about: - stitching a slow sewing project by hand - collecting bits of fabric, vintage textiles, scrap textiles, memories and treasures together to tell a cherished story
slow stitching – what is it? - creating a new story through the process of laying down, thoughtful piecing and slowly stitching together - building community, friendships and creating bonds with other women
slow stitching – what is it? - embellishing with hand embroidery, fabric flowers, weaving, buttons, vintage jewelry, rope, twine, yarn, found items and more - It’s about taking the time to reflect on what is being created, and how the stitches and fabric pieces relate to each other.
slow stitching – what is it? - it’s about re-using and repurposing our textiles and slowing down the acquisition of new fabrics - it’s about remembering and honouring the women who created exquisite textiles by hand
slow stitching – what is it? - it’s about the sheer joy of fondling fabric, feeling the various textures, exploring the weaving and weight - it’s about enjoying the rhythm of the needle as it flows in and out of the fabric pieces, messy stitches, long stitches and short stitches – it doesn’t matter, they are all beautiful
slow stitching – what is it? - it’s about creating a quiet time to turn off the world, a time to be still and to feel the presence of the Spirit, it’s a time to feel present, to breathe.
