B2 – Organisation – Enzymes Describe what an enzyme is. Enzyme Where it is made Where it acts What the products of digestion are Carbohydrase or amylase Protease Lipase Enzymes are specific, what does this mean? Use the keywords: Active site and reactant Add labels to the following diagram of an enzyme-reactant complex. Look at the graph below which shows how temperature affects an enzyme-controlled reaction. Describe the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction. Explain the shape of the graph. c. How does pH affect the rate of enzyme-controlled reactions? Describe what happens when an enzyme becomes denatured. Describe the “lock and key theory”. Make reference to collision theory if you can. You may draw pictures if it is easier.

B2 – Organisation – Digestive System Complete the labels for the digestive system below: Describe the function of each of the following parts in terms of digestion: Salivary glands Oesophagus Stomach Liver Gall bladder Pancreas Duodenum Small intestine Large intestine Anus What is the purpose of digestion? Where is bile produced? What is its function? Define chemical and physical digestion and describe where this takes place. Describe the positive results you would expect to see for each of the food tests below: Starch – Protein – Lipids – Glucose –

B2 – Organisation – Heart, Blood and Circulatory System Describe the role of: Red blood cells: White blood cells: Platelets: Explain how the different features of these blood vessels relate to their function: Arteries Thick elastic walls: Veins Valves: Large lumen and thin walls: Capillaries Walls are one cell thick On the diagram, label the following: Left atrium, right atrium, left ventricle, right ventricle. Aorta, vena cava, pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein What does plasma transport? How is a red blood cell adapted to carry lots of oxygen? Describe how the heart beat is controlled: Describe the route the blood takes through the body starting at the left atrium:

B2 – Organisation – Cardiovascular Disease, Risk Factors and Cancer What is coronary heart disease? What are statins? Give some advantages of using statins: Give some disadvantages of using statins: Why might artificial blood be given if someone has lost a lot of blood? What is a communicable disease? Give an example: What is a non-communicable disease How do stents help someone with coronary heart disease? When might an artificial heart be used? Give some advantages of using one: Give some disadvantages: When might a heart valve need to be replaced? What are the 2 types of valve which can be used? Describe the difference between benign and malignant tumours. What is a risk factor? Give some risk factors for coronary heart disease:

B2- Plant Cell Organisation Label the structure for a vertical section of a leaf. State the function and describe how each layer of the leaf is adapted to perform is role: Upper epidermal tissue – Palisade mesophyll – Spongy mesophyll – Lower epidermal tissue – Xylem- Phloem- What is transpiration? What is the transpiration stream? What 4 factors increase the rate of transpiration? 1) 2) 3) 4) What is the role of the stomata? How is their opening/ closing controlled? What is translocation and where does it toccur? Describe how plants reduce water loss.
