Finish Line Lessons Learned Central Piedmont, Charlotte Works, Pitt CC, Region Q Workforce Board, and RossIES

Region Q Process All community colleges use the same process throughout the region One page application + One page checklist requiring CC staff signature + One page of required documents needed -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A MOU is in place with our neighboring board regions to serve students based on where they attend school, not their county of residence After tracking data from the first semester, we found that roughly 30% of students who applied at the college were never making it to the NCWorks Career Center Operations funds were requested, which allows a FLG Career Advisor to work on each campus at least once each week

Pitt CC, NC Works & Ross Prov FLG Process Paper Application Students apply via meeting with college representative: an FLG-specific application was created Managed by Pitt Community College Screening & Intake Scheduling College representative collects paperwork, check eligibility and reviews process. Check list provided to student of steps and documents needed. College rep sends docs to Ross Prov representative Intake Ross Prov or NC Works Case Manager depending on day of the week walks student through sign up and completes application documentation with student Managed by Ross Prov and NC Works

Charlotte Works & Central Piedmont FLG Process Online Application Students apply via MyCollege: an FLG-specific application was created Managed by Central Piedmont Screening & Scheduling Emergency Grant Coordinator determines basic eligibility and schedules an Intake Meeting with Charlotte Works and a session with the CP Single Stop Financial Counselor. A list of required intake documents is provided Approximately 1-2 days before the intake appointment, a follow-up call is made to ensure that the student brings the necessary paperwork to the meeting Intake NC Works Specialist walks student through paperwork and application Managed by Charlotte Works Campus Marketing Included: Developing a webpage that included information, the steps in the process, and a link to apply. We looked at our student data to determine who would be eligible for the Finishline Grant and then sent a targeted email to those students to let them know about the FLG and the steps they would need to take to apply. We choose to have the application accessible through the students my college account so their information could be authenticated.

Charlotte Works & Central Piedmont FLG Process WIOA File Certification NC Works Supervisor approves file and moves forward with payment OR returns file for additional information/documentation. A 2nd meeting with the student may be needed. Managed by Charlotte Works Payment Processing NC Works confirms all community resources are exhausted and collects final documentation Managed by Central Piedmont and Charlotte Works Analysis Participant Survey, Follow-up (phone, email) Generate Reports, as needed (list of graduates, certifications obtained, etc.)

Charlotte Works & Central Piedmont Partnership Support Weekly Conference Calls To enhance collaboration and review processes, the teams from CP and Charlotte Works conduct a weekly conference call. Inter-Office Collaboration The FLG team member from the Charlotte Works office is located on the CP campus, in the Single Stop office.

If the student does not qualify what do we do? CP process Meet with Single Stop Coordinator to consider additional wraparound services Student is referred online for Emergency Grant. Application is managed by the Single Stop Office with financial support provided by CP’s Foundation Office NC Works Career Center to determine if eligible for other programs under WIOA i.e. Work-based learning or ITA funded training. PCC process Aunt Bertha website, (student logs on website) Student makes an appointment with Foundation Office Student makes appointment with NC Works Student sent to TRIO EOC Students can be referred to NC Works for assistance with resume writing, interviewing, on the job training and/or adult work experience.

What do you do for the unique situation students? Central Piedmont – Discuss during our weekly call to determine if a decision can be made. If needed, the team reaches out to the Charlotte Works Director of Programs for guidance. PCC- Call or email Region Q WFB Director, Ross IES (3rd Party) provider and decide together.
