How do architects determine the number of beams needed? By: Molly, Mary, Carolyn, Niko, Caleb By: Molly. Mary, Carolyn. Niko, Caleb

Support Beams: Support beams help hold up the structure. For example: Beams help hold up houses, roller coasters and many more structures. The number of beams needed depends on the weight that the beam will need to hold. If the weight is heavy you will need a stronger beam.

Different types of beams: Header beams: Are beams that are horizontal Wood beams Steel beams: Are better for taller structure Concrete beams: Don’t have good balance Shear stress beams: For shear force fixed beams Joist span Simply supported beams Cantilever Continuously supported Picture is a bridge.

Beam Design: Joist span lengths are 10 feet on one side and 16 feet on the other. Shear stress beams are for maximum shear force. Beam depth or thickness can be increased by section models.

How do architects determine the number of beams needed? Most builders choose double the beams they think they need. They draw floor plans. Example: 50 x 2 = 100. The architect will choose 100 beams instead of 50 beams. They double the number because they want to have enough
