Health and Wellbeing

Well being includes physical, mental, social and emotional health.

Learning about in health and wellbeing in school ensures that young people develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future.

If your wellbeing is positive you will be able to: Make decisions about your health. Take part in activities that you enjoy and challenge you. Use your mental, emotional, social and physical skills to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Use your knowledge to avoid risky situations. Cope the changes in life e.g. moving from p7 to S1, S6 to college etc. Make positive friendships and maintain them through challenging times. Be able to seek help and support when times are difficult.

In school there are 6 main categories health and wellbeing is divided into. Your health and well being education happens in a variety of ways. In subject classes. Assemblies Registration Focus days/events Participation in clubs.

HWB in CHS Area of Health and Wellbeing Where you find out about it. Planning for choices and changes Careers education, CHS 360, tutor period, talks form careers advisers, one to one meeting with careers adviser, filling in application form etc. Physical education, physical activity and sport In PE, taking part in clubs/activities in and out of school. Sexual Health Relationship and Parenting Lessons on sexual health, domestic abuse, s3 parenting event etc.

Area of Health and Wellbeing Where you find out about it. Food and health Home economics. Substance misuse CHS 360, focus days, assemblies, senior tutor period. Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing All classes, CHS 360, interactions with others, anti bullying activities, tutor period, assemblies, registration, group work in classes etc. Specific group work – Seasons for Growth. Working with Pupil Support, counsellor, nurse, pupil and family support etc.

Positive Mental Health Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. (World Health Organization)

At CHS we want to promote positive mental health in all our students At CHS we want to promote positive mental health in all our students. We aim to encourage everyone to practise positivity for better mental health. Positivity helps us build resilience, cope better with stress and be more productive.

There are 4 main areas to be foster positivity Connect – connecting with each other through meeting up with people e.g. clubs, groups, project work. Create – stress-relieving creative activities such as writing, painting, reading. Compassion – caring for ourselves and others through charity events, acts of kindness. Choose to slow down – mindfulness or reflective activities – chill time!
