BIRKMAN SYMBOLS – A Summary of Personality Birkman uses four core symbols to represent key personality dimensions. Birkman uses four important symbols to represent key elements of personality. The Diamond and the Square are our 2 external, or outward, behaviors. These are our Usual Behavior and Stress Behavior. The Asterisk and Circle are our 2 internal, or inward, motivations. These are our Interests and Needs. Let’s find out more about each one! Usual Behavior Stress Behavior Interests Needs

Usual Behavior The Diamond represents your Usual Behavior. RED USUAL BEHAVIOR Practical Active Decisive Candid GREEN USUAL BEHAVIOR Flexible Sociable Responsive Competitive YELLOW USUAL BEHAVIOR Focused Collaborative Consistent Independent BLUE USUAL BEHAVIOR Reflective Tactful Expressive Suggestive

Reds are DOERS: They are Extroverted and Task-Oriented. Birkman Red Reds are DOERS: They are Extroverted and Task-Oriented. Reds are people who: Make quick decisions Are direct and action-oriented Give full attention to the task at hand Enjoy building and working with their hands Do you know someone who just loves doing things? Well, welcome to the world of a Birkman Red.

Enjoy selling and motivating Teach and counsel others BIRKMAN GREEN Greens are COMMUNICATORS: They are Extroverted and People-Oriented. Greens are people who: Like to communicate Enjoy selling and motivating Teach and counsel others Are natural influencers While they are also extroverted in their style, a Birkman Green is likely known for being a social butterfly. And that’s because Greens are COMMUNICATORS: They are Extroverted & People-Oriented.

Blues are THINKERS: They are Introverted and People-Oriented. Birkman Blue Blues are THINKERS: They are Introverted and People-Oriented. Blues are people who: Plan and visualize possibilities Generate new ideas and solve problems Enjoy reflection and introspection Are selectively sociable Like Yellows, a Birkman Blue also represents introversion. Blues are THINKERS: They are Introverted and people-oriented. You may recognize a Birkman Blue as someone who is creative.

Yellows are ANALYZERS: They are Introverted and Task-Oriented. BIRKMAN YELLOW Yellows are ANALYZERS: They are Introverted and Task-Oriented. Yellows are ANALYZERS: They are Introverted and Task-Oriented. Yellows are people who: Are concentrative and cautious Like to work with numbers and details Establish systems and procedures Prefer indirect communication Yellows are the opposite of Green, as they are Introverted & Task-Oriented. Yellows are Analyzers. You may recognize a Birkman Yellow as someone who is precise and consistent.

The Only Assessment That Captures NEEDS By understanding one’s own Needs, individuals are better able to recharge, stay motivated, and avoid Stress Behavior. By understanding other’s Needs, an individual is able to provide the support to improve morale, increase productivity, and better facilitate communication. Needs: What individuals crave from their environment and the people around them. When someone’s Needs are met, they are fulfilled, engaged, and productive. For 70% of people, what we NEED is DIFFERENT than HOW WE BEHAVE.

Needs The Circle represents your Needs. RED NEEDS Direct authority Outlet for energy Clear cut situations GREEN NEEDS Recognition Group interaction Flexibility and varied activities YELLOW NEEDS Protection from interruptions Detailed directions Consistency BLUE NEEDS Opportunities to express feelings Time for reflection Respect

Stress Behavior The Square represents your Stress Behavior.
