Carlos A. flores, Jr. Edd College of Education Meeting Goal Setting Carlos A. flores, Jr. Edd College of Education Meeting

Goals Goals are essential in everything we do. Personal or professional We all had the same goal at one point, to graduate, whether it was high school or college.

Complete guide to goal setting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpKvs-apvOs

Smart goals We’ve all heard of smart goals before. Let’s take a quick look at some different goals. Some good, some bad

There are a few issues here…what are they? Bad! Here are some examples of bad Iep goals (of course I chose to use IEP goals!) There are a few issues here…what are they? The student will behave better in class Read at a faster pace this quarter

These are much better than the others Good examples These are much better than the others In 36 instructional weeks, using decoding skills and oral practice from a third grade text, Josh will independently read 70 correct words per minute in 8 out of 10 trials. By the end of the 2018-2019 school year, given a 4th grade story prompt and 30 minutes to write, Mason will write a three paragraph essay using transition words in sentences and between paragraphs with 5 or less errors in usage.

Hands on Let’s work in groups 2-3 people per group Everyone is going to write a goal – it can be a personal goal, or a professional goal. Remember, it must include all the SMART goal elements When you’re done with your goal, share it with you partners. Take a look at your partner’s goals and make sure they include all the correct elements

A few reminders Your goals should not be too easy – challenge yourself The greater danger for most of us isn’t that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it– Michelangelo I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work, even if they are uncomfortable at the time – Michael Phelps They should not be something that will consume your life – you have a family, do not ignore them In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed – Sid Caesar Take little steps towards a larger goal – do not try to do it all at once

Specific Measurable Actionable Relevant time

Let’s share Who would like to share your goal?

Conclusion Remember to write down your goals and take a look at them often. Adjust them as needed Share your goals with a partner, be accountable to someone who will help make sure you reach your goals Most importantly – be sure you have a goal, do not continue on your journey without a destination People with goals succeed, because they know where they’re going – earl nightingale
