Welcome to Year 5 Thank you for coming today

General Routines Register is taken at 9:00 Daily run Maths and English every day in AM Theme in PM PE on Wednesday and Thursday Monday – spellings and homework diary check – please have these everyday Important to let me know if any messages in them Once a week we will complete maths club and mental arithmetic

Start and end of the day Children can come into the classroom from 8:45 onwards Independence – will have a morning activity to complete Children to be dismissed from classroom or outside

Year 5 – High expectations

Maths Numbers to million Addition and subtraction – 4 digits, rounding, problem solving Multiplication and division – factors, prime numbers, 4 digits, 10s numbers, square and cube, solve problems Shapes – 3d, angles, properties of rectangles Measures – convert metric, perimeter, volume

Maths club Times tables Will be tested on Friday- may be flexible Starting from beginning – check for gaps

Writing Spell year 5 words Prefix and suffixes Silent letters Hyphen Homophones Relative clauses Commas, brackets, dashes Modal verbs Active and passive voice

Reading Explain purpose How the author has used different devices Make comparisons Inference Facts and opinions Retrieve and record information Summarise Discuss books

Homework Reading (at least 3 times per week). This will be monitored weekly and recorded in Homework Books. Reading Rewards will continue. Reading in the classroom – class reader, reading reviews Spelling Practising spellings weekly – scores from tests recorded in Homework books. Tested on a Friday. Will be spelling pattern taught and own personal high frequency words National curriculum words Learning timetables and Mental arithmetic Regularly practise the above every day
