What is The Daily Mile?
“Exercise is fun” True: Hands on your head! False: Hands on your hips! Now going to do a fun True or False Game!
“I have to run a whole mile” Why? Everybody goes at their own pace so you can run, jog, or even walk if you need to The more you do The Daily Mile, the fitter you will become, meaning you can go further and further!
“It helps me to pay attention in class” Why? Exercise makes our heart beat faster which means more oxygen and nutrients can get to our brains! During exercise our brains release special chemicals that are responsible for memory and concentration When we get fitter, the special part of the brain that controls our learning actually gets bigger! The bigger it gets, the more we can fit in!
“We can’t go out if it is raining” Why? We can still do The Daily Mile – we just wear our coats! Unless the weather is really bad. Then we will have to wait for another day But fresh air is always good for us!
“It makes me healthier” Why? Regular exercise makes our bones stronger Exercise helps our muscles to grow Being outside helps to keep our minds healthy
“It’s less time for learning” Why? Regular exercise makes us better learners Our brains need regular breaks to be able to do their best work Doing The Daily Mile is investing in our learning!
“It’s ok to walk if you need to” Why? The Daily Mile is not competitive, it is all about taking part! It doesn’t matter how far or fast you go-you should try to run but if you need a little walking break, that is ok too Your fitness will get better, the important thing is to keep practicing!
“It will ruin my uniform” Why? Does playing at lunchtime ruin your uniform? You wear exactly the same clothes during The Daily Mile, so if lunchtime doesn’t ruin them….. The Daily Mile won’t either!
