How can EMODNet Chemistry engage in support to MSFD data reporting Alessandra Giorgetti and Matteo Vinci (OGS) Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013

Summary EMODNet Chemistry 2 objectives and workplan MSFD two-way interaction Conclusive remarks Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013

EMODNet Chemistry 2 To assemble marine data, metadata and data products covering all European waters, facilitating their access and re-use, building on what was achieved during the preparatory actions. Note: This map is derived from the EU Tender document but lacks the Norwegian sea

EMODNet Chemistry 2 The parameters: The right hand column of the table above indicates the minimum number of chemical species to be assembled; All available measurements of chemicals in the groups on the left hand column of the table should be assembled. * Parameters for the new call *

Workplan of the project EMODNet Chemistry 2 Workplan of the project Technical Annex Executed in 3 phases: construction (months 1-12) consolidation (months 13-24) convergence (months 25-36) Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013

WP3: QA/QC – Validation – MSFD interaction (ISPRA) Objective: to maximize the compliancy to the MSFD directives and needs WP5: Analyses and Recommendations (ICES) Objective: to engage with MSFD stakeholders and align/revise chemical portal and products through dialogue Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013

WP0 – Coordination - planned meetings Group Number of meetings Comment Coordination group 4 Kick-off + 3 annual meetings Steering committee 7 Every 6 months + final meeting MSFD experts and WG DIKE representatives 2 M12 and M24 The 7 EMODNet thematic lots will meet with EU every 6 months to ensure convergence and collaboration between lots. The 7 EMODNet thematic lots will meet with VLIZ and DG MARE to oversee development of an entry point portal. The 7 EMODNet thematic lots will meet with WG-DIKE/MODEG to work collaboratively and support data access for MSFD assessment and monitoring. Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013

providing access to chemical data of particular relevance to MSFD, and Emodnet Chemistry 2 plans to have a regular dialogue with the WG DIKE, focusing on: establishing and agreeing on standards for MSFD-relevant data and data products, providing access to chemical data of particular relevance to MSFD, and incorporating data emanating from MSFD assessments and monitoring, including its labelling as formal MSFD datasets and its provision by Member State organisations that are outside of the contracts. Nineteenth meeting of MODEG, 4-5 July 2013
